A subtle, sweet scent enveloped passers-by, who strolled and stopped along the aisles to admire one of the 453 flowers on display Saturday at the 14th annual Daylily Show. Bedecked in buds and ribbons, the daylilies stood proudly in vases and or snuggled in bowls, after being judged in 10 different divisions by judges from across the Southeast.

Planting will take place from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. A barbecue for volunteers will be at noon at the chancellor's home. Parking is free in the Nenana lot across from the Patty Center. A COTSWOLDS nurseryman has received recognition on the grandest stage by helping win a gold medal at this year's Chelsea Flower Show. Crop losses from volcanic emissions

Hawaii's floriculture and nursery products were valued at an estimated $98.6 million in 2008. The National Agricultural Statistics Service's Hawaii Field Office said the value was down 9 percent from $108.7 million in 2007. The report said the industry still is a major contributor to Hawaii's agriculture. Growers commented on slower business in 2008 as a result of the sluggish economy, crop losses from volcanic emissions on the Big Island, adverse weather conditions and the high cost of farming.
