Mary Ann Le May

Mary Ann Le May is one of the top garden designers of UK. Mary comes from a graphic design background. Mary is interested in both contemporary and traditional gardening styles.

Mary has a Diploma in Garden Design, from Oxford College of Garden Design in 1996 and a RHS General Diploma in Horticulture. She teaches Garden Design at the Chiltern Garden School which she runs with the help of a colleague. She is also a tutor for the Institute of Garden Design.

Mary believes that the garden should empathise with the house and its surroundings and become a truly special place. Mary lives in south Oxfordshire near the Berkshire border, and works within a 25 mile radius of her home.

• Mary Designs, Large and small gardens in town or country, formal or informal with a contemporary touch.
• Mary provides a plant guarantee service which includes quarterly visits to make sure the plants are thriving and replacing any which have failed together with specific maintenance advice to the client for the time of year, plus an annual review to see whether the planting is successful, and what might need to be added or taken away.
• Mary also recommends a gardener to cover spring and autumn maintenance, or at more frequent intervals if required.

Mary Ann Le May's Awards and Achievements

• Mary's work was exhibited at both Chelsea and Hampton Court when she was studying at the Oxford College of Garden Design in 1996.
• In 1997 she took the RHS General Examination in Horticulture, passing with credit.
• In 1997 she won a Gold Medal for a courtyard show garden at the Thames Valley Flower Show with friend and colleague, Susan Chapman.
• In that year she was also awarded a silver salver as the Living Heritage Garden Designer of the Year.
• In 2002 she built her second show garden at the Blenheim Palace Flower Show, once again collaborating with Susan Chapman, for which she won a Silver Medal.

Mary opens her garden to the public from time to time and has recently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design.
