Erv Evans

Photo of Mr. Evans - Consumer Horticulturist Ervin D. Evans, popularly known as Erv Evans, is a noted name in the world of Horticulture. Indeed, the name Erv Evans is synonymous to the domain of Consumer Horticulture. He is associated with the Department of Horticultural Science, North Carolina State University as the Extension Associate and Coordinator, State Master Gardeners. Evans completed his M.S. from Clemson University.

As Coordinator of the State Master Gardeners, Evans provides leadership and management of the Master Gardener program in concert with the overall Consumer Horticulture Program. He also leads the management and training of volunteers, develops training materials (including the Master Gardeners Manual) for county programs, trains county faculty in Master Gardeners programming and provides general guidance to the Master Gardeners program. He also participates in the national network of Master Gardeners and coordinates through meetings and communications with peers in other states of USA.

Evans is the webmaster of Consumer Horticulture, an NCSU Cooperative Extension Service website Helping Gardeners Put Knowledge To Work. This website is a great resource for gardeners looking for something different instead of regular plant varieties. The site hosts tons of photos and information on plants that grow well in USA, with special reference to USDA zones 6, 7 and 8 which includes much of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, and parts of the West and Southern Plains. A uique feature of the site is that it contains cultural information on growing many plants and a series of facts sheets on specific plant species and cultivars.

Evans is a great photographer as well. His still life photography, especially of nature and flowers is simply fantastic. His photographs are seen across his and many other sites on flowers and gardening.
