American Rhododendron Society Will Feature a Program on How to Create Plants From Cuttings

Sat, 04 Oct 2008 05:00:00 GMT

rhododendron

At 10 AM, on Saturday, the 25th. of October, at the Pro-Build Garden Center (formerly the Lumberman's Garden Center), located at 235 River Street, Santa Cruz, the Monterey Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will feature a program by Mike McCullough on how to create plants from cuttings. Here, you have an opportunity to create your own rhododendron plant which in sometime between three to five years from now should have flowers. There is no charge for admission. Unfortunately many nurseries only feature nineteenth century rhododendrons, and rhododendrons hybridized on the East Coast, and in Europe. These are not the best rhododendrons for our area, which are ones hybridized in the West Coast of the United States, especially in California. Cutting material from West Coast rhododendrons; including Maddenii Series and Vireya Series rhododendrons (very likely the best rhododendrons for our area), will be featured in our program.
