53rd Washington Antiques Show

Lush greenery is not often associated with Washington, DC on a January weekend. But that is the first thing patrons of the 53rd Washington Antiques Show will experience before gazing at an even greater bounty, courtesy of the prestigious show's international collectors.

Alexandria-based landscape architect Anne Irving created a “garden path” at the entrance of the show, scheduled for Jan 11-13 at The Omni Shoreham Hotel Regency Ballroom, 2500 Calvert Street, NW in the District. It leads to another locally-influenced portion of the show: “Inspirations from the Garden,” a loan exhibition from 14 different historical homes, museums and private collections in the Washington area that focus on home and garden items...

The Ventura County Rose Society and the Gold Coast Heritage Rose Group will cosponsor the seventh annual “Pruning Old Garden Roses Demonstration” at 8:30 a.m. Sat., Jan. 12 at the Stagecoach Inn Museum Rose Garden, 51 S. Ventu Park Road, Newbury Park.

Jeri and Clay Jennings will demonstrate how to prune tea roses, noisettes and climbing roses. They are co-founders of the Gold Coast Heritage Rose Group and 2002 Outstanding Consulting Rosarians of the Pacific Southwest District of the American Rose Society...

Mrs Janet Bailey demonstrated 'Christmas' showing ways of using various forms of greenery from our gardens with seasonal flowers to make a festive ring and how to be bold with colour.

Beautiful flowers and baubles all made for attractive arrangements.

At the end of the meeting a cup of tea and slice of Christmas cake was enjoyed by all.

Mrs Binnie Rodway gave the vote of thanks.

The next meeting will be on February 5 when Mrs J Lane will demonstrate Favourite Things.

Meetings are held at St John's Church Hall, Meads Road, at 2.30pm and visitors are always very welcome...


Expert's tips on Flower Arrangement

HINTS and tips on flower arranging will be presented at the Bahrain Garden Club's (BGC) weekly meeting at its clubhouse in Juffair today.

The talk on pot-et-fleur (flower arrangement in a container) will be presented by BGC member Mary Yateem.

Pot-et-fleur is one of the competition categories of the BGC's 43rd Annual Amateur Flower and Vegetable Show.

The show is one of the features of the Riffa Views Bahrain International Garden Show 2008, which will be held from February 22 to 24 at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre...
