Baguio Flower Festival 2007

All roads lead to Baguio City as the annual Flower Festival starts on February 1. “We in the executive committee would see to it that we improve our featured activities every year,” festival chairman Damaso Bangaoet said. He noted all tourism-oriented establishments here are now ready to give visitors comfort and the best services Baguio is known for.

The Flower Festival is the main tourism activity in this mountain resort which draws at least 500,000 visitors. Traditionally, the most attended activity is the float parade and street dancing but Bangaoet said this year, more activities will be enjoyed both by the participants and spectators...

Royal Botanic Gardens

Tropical Flowers and Orchid Festival will be on display for 30 days at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, from 3rd February - 4th March, 2007.

There are over 30,000 tropical plants on display and many more colours. The orchids, anthuriums, maranta & bromeliads create the largest display of tropical colour in the UK and will take you a million miles from the dark and cold winter days.

Master gardner meeting slated

Gail Nampel, a UW-Extension certified master gardener and secretary of the Dodge County Master Gardener Association will describe how to become a master gardener during the Dodge County Master Gardeners first monthly meeting of the year. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 25, at the Administration Building, 127 E. Oak St. in Juneau. There is no cost to attend.

Nampel will discuss the requirements of the master gardener program and will highlight projects completed in the Dodge County area.


New Zealand's Science Exhibition

New Zealand's native floral and fauna ? as never seen before will be exhibited at the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu next month. Inside Out Kiwi Icons Seen in a New Light is an exhibition of 25 images of iconic Kiwi animals, fish and plants as seen through the lens of high-tech medical imaging equipment. Three Christchurch doctors Professors Justin Roake and Tim Buckenham and surgeon David Lewis have spent the last two years experimenting with the medical scans to create the images that will be exhibited for the first time from 3 to 18 February at the Art Gallery.


The Orchid Forest

The Orchid Forest, a vivid orchid exhibition, will transform the conservatory's tropical rainforest with a rainbow of more than 15,000 bright pink, yellow, orange, lime green and purple blooms. Visitors will stroll along rolling fog into a Spanish-moss cave and through a spectacular array of tropical orchids suspended in trees. The exhibition will include orchids primarily from Hawaii and California including oncidium, dendrobium, cymbidium, epidendrum and phalaenopsis. Opening weekend also coincides with the American Institute of Floral Designers Show, where visitors will have the opportunity to view arrangements created by some of the most noted designers in Central Ohio. The three-day show will feature a floral design demonstration on Jan. 14 from 2-4 p.m. where AIFD members will create arrangements inspired by the conservatory's current exhibitions - Fiori: A Chihuly Garden of Glass and The Orchid Forest.
